Never give up until you succeed; hard work pays off.

Pinoy Skip Man, Ryan Alonzo, the nephew of Vice-Presidential Candidate Dr. Wille Ong broke the Guinness World Record using a jump rope last October 2, 2021, in Ayala Malls Circuit Makati. He successfully surpassed the 20,000-record mark of double under skips in 12 hours, from the morning until 7 in the evening, totaling 40,980 skips.

For him, the task that needed to be accomplished wasn’t easy. He already started having doubts about setting the world record. He only needed six more hours to finish the challenge, where he had already completed 21,327 skips at noon. Afterward, he continued with the challenge to put his name in the history books. He also experienced cramps through the halfway point during the challenge, but with the crowd’s cheers, he continued the challenge.

He trained with Gadric Chusenfu, and they underwent similar training to prepare for a marathon and focused on strength, speed, and endurance workouts to make sure that he was ready physically for the challenge. What is more crucial is the nutrition and the strategy on where he needs to focus.

A double under in a jump rope is a 720-degree revolution with a single jump, which means the rope has to pass twice under every single skip.

Determination is the key to success. The path is there unless we learn to handle the obstacles that we face day today. Nothing is easy unless you exert everything into full force and do your best to give your all. If you give up, nothing is going to succeed. Nothing is impossible until you reach the end, and just keep on trying no matter what.

THE AUTHOR

Sage Lejano

I am Sage Rafaelle P. Lejano, a sports writer of USTAC Tigercubs. I am a determined and explorative writer. As such I can also see myself being committed to my passion. I want to discover new things and elements in anything, especially this is considered to be one of the factors of a writer perhaps.

Aside from these things, my interests are watching TV Series, movies, and documentaries. I also like to do photography, watching sports news, and to travel to different places. Listening to music and dancing is also my hobby during my free time. To be a journalist or a reporter is what I dream to be in the future, to cover sports, travel, features, and news topics that involve national issues like political summits, state visits, and media forums. Thus, representing the Philippines in international events through reporting has been my dream since I was young.

Joining the UST Angelicum Tigercubs is an opportunity and also an additional experience in line with composing articles, for I consider this as my preparation for the future. I might be new to writing articles, but I believe that practicing and reading essays, articles, and researching some more will improve my skills in writing and soon to become better at it.
