Leadership is an essential foundation that every community should have in store. To be a leader is to be able to implement the different projects that will benefit the community. A Student Council allows for growth in leadership and communication in an academic setting, as well as become the voice of the student body. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential for students to have leaders who will help amplify their voices during these difficult times.

During the school year of 2020–2021, two parties vied for the positions of Student Council; KASAMA (Kaagapay sa Serbisyo at Aksyon Para sa Mag-Aaral) Party, and ALPAS (Alliance of Leaders Partaking as Abled Servitors) Party. The KASAMA Party is associated with the color red while the ALPAS Party, the color blue. KASAMA Party’s main motto was “Aktibo. Dedikado. Progresibo. Desidido. Ibotong Diretso!” while ALPAS Party’s main motto was “Karamay. Kasapi. Katagumpay.”

The campaign period for both parties went on during October 19–23. The Miting de Avance was held on October 23, 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in a Zoom meeting, but was limited to 300 attendees. The elections took place on the same day at 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm via Schoology; and by 4:14 pm, the results were announced.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Aasta Varela

My name is Juliana Aasta Bernice A. Varela. I am someone who is thought to be hardworking and passionate in my craft, such as writing in particular.

I have had a passion of reading and writing ever since I was young, and it is truly something that has spoken volumes to me. I am also punctual, as I usually pass articles and literary pieces on time or early. I have been writing in the Journalism Club of UST Angelicum College ever since Junior High School, and after just a year of High School, I was the Senior Literary Editor starting Grade 8 to Grade 10. I then continued on to be the News Editor in both Grade 11 and 12, the years of Senior High School.

I think one of the things that is personal about me besides writing is my love for the piano. I haven’t been able to play in a while, but my memories of the piano have been truly fond, and it’s a way for me to vent out my feelings and be in complete serendipity.
