A new phase has already opened for SHS 2 learners, and this means they are one step ahead of writing a whole thesis in the second semester.

As we dive deeper, we must know that an abstract is fundamental to a thesis paper, and to work on it well, learners must firstly have an explicit understanding of writing an Abstract. With a new series of prominence in an academic enrichment program, this webinar aims for students to be percipient and cultivated in writing abstracts. Also, to push their abilities in writing to the next level! In this way, learners will march with confidence in their enriched knowledge and be well-equipped for their academic success in the long term.

A webinar entitled ‘Writing an Abstract across Research Disciplines.’ was held virtually last September 3, 2021, and is attended exclusively by SHS2 learners. Dr. Rossani M. Del Mundo, Vice President for Research and the Dean of the College of Education at the Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas, and the former Director for Academic Affairs of UST Angelicum-College was the guest speaker at the said event.

The webinar started with a promising introduction and with warm-up games. The friendly atmosphere brought by Dr. Del Mundo made the students participate in her fun interactive questions while inserting their answers on the chat box. After it, she proceeded to discuss her primary objective, Abstract Writing in Research Disciplines.

Dr. Del Mundo carefully expounded the Abstract’s purpose and definition. She was also detailed while discussing the features/contents, examples, guide questions, and tips for Abstract. And these segments are indeed helpful in the learner’s future thesis works — for they will underpin their work. Also, Dr. Del Mundo discussed every detail seamlessly and explicitly until the end, in which learners’ knowledge about abstracts has escalated.

The overall discussion was thought-provoking, especially since this topic is what the students need the most; to save themselves from the heavy lifting of not-knowing-what-to-do. Learners can finally employ what they learned and become discerning of things they often overlooked while writing abstracts. The webinar will surely reinvigorate students in writing the accurate Abstract after acquiring in-depth knowledge from it.

The webinar was fruitful despite the 1-hour duration because of Dr. Del Mundo’s straightforward yet clear delivery. Not to mention, but Dr. Del Mundo was kind enough to share her PowerPoint presentation with the learners who can study and refer to it anytime.

At the end of the presentation, Dr. Del Mundo got awarded by certification of appreciation, given by our dearest Senior High School Coordinator, Mrs. Mariecol Chavez.

THE AUTHOR

Ofelia Valmocina

A late bloomer who never knew will ingrain herself in the beauty of writing.

I am Ofelia Valmocina and a Feature Writer of UST Angelicum’s Tigercubs. A bubbly person and easy to approach. I’m also meticulous, persistent, and tenacious in what I do. Above all, God-fearing. Besides writing, I love watching Korean dramas.

As a fact, my capabilities have gotten only visible to me lately; that’s why I call myself a late bloomer. Every nook and cranny of my life, I have never thought of writing with interest, but life is indeed unforeseen. Suddenly, writing hit me with its beauty and got me enthralled. It was a driving force for me to widen my vocabulary and produce my own version of writing with beauty and explicitness.

Writing rekindled my passion for something and built my sense of worth. I write because it gives me hope — that I also have the skill, strength, and ability to exhibit myself to everyone. Also, it enables me to see the beautiful (even beauty in mundane) and compelling segments of life. Since that day, writing has become an outlet for me to see my growth, and I’m more than willing to learn and share new impressions through Tigercubs! For the love of writing, expect my steadfast growth and exploration.
