PaSIKLABan 2021!: USTAC SSSG commences annual SHS Week

The last semester had been chock-full of challenges, adjustments, and adaptation to the online learning modalities. The pandemic affected not just only the online learnings and teachings but also the implementation of extra-curricular activities. One of these activities being the annual SHS Week, as said by the Senior High School Principal, Ms. Maria Urduja Galang.

As the UST Angelicum Supreme Senior Student Government (USTAC SHS SSG) wishes to continue the annual tradition known to all as the Senior High School Week, they organized the first ever virtual Senior High School Week entitled “PASIKLABAN 2021” with the theme: “Philippine Gods and Goddesses: Incorporating Excellence and Magnificence through Traditional, Cultural and Moral Roots.” The said event was hosted by Alliah Orca and Ms. Maria Vanna Banigoos.

PINOY PRIDE: The 6 Gods and Goddesses Filipino Mythology

The first day of the event started on March 8, 2021 at 1:00 in the afternoon and was streamed on the official Facebook page of UST Angelicum College. The ceremony kicked off with the presentation of 6 teams representing 6 Filipino Gods and Goddesses as the ruler of the universe, namely:

MAPULON (Orange) — The God of seasons

HANAN (Red) — The Goddess of morning, dawn and new beginnings

TALA (Blue) — The Goddess of the stars

APOLAKI (Yellow) — The God of sun and patron of warriors

BATHALA (Green) — The Creator of all things; and lastly

MAYARI (Violet) — The goddess of the moon

The presentation of the 6 teams was followed by an opening prayer, the singing of the National Anthem, and the opening remarks of Dr. Eunice Areola, Director of Academic Affairs.

Although all of the activities are to be held virtually, it is still deemed important to uphold and observe the values of sportsmanship and integrity. This led to the Reciting of Oath of Sportsmanship conducted by the SSSG President, Tobey Calayo. The opening ceremony ended with an intermission number from Marcus Fernando from HUMSS-1B and Kirsten Pahutan of STEM-2A, showing off their skills and talent in singing, followed by the singing of the UST Hymn.

The week consists of events and competitions that reminisce customary events such as the Mr. and Ms. Senior High School as well as creative competitions which include Spoken Word Poetry. This was also paired with novel events such as the E-Sports and tournaments, specifically Valorant, Call of Duty: Mobile, Mobile Legends, Minecraft, Among Us, Roblox, Online Chess, and Nearpod.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Danielle Toca

My name is Danielle Mari Toca but I prefer to be called ‘Dani’. There are numerous words to describe what makes me a person and a writer, but I would describe myself as the kind of person that has a peculiar sense of thinking.

I’m a pursuer, an adventurer, and a seeker of things that I want to know and things that are in need of answers. People often describe me as a shy, yet bubbly person. I enjoy designing layouts, editing videos, and making the many series and ideas inside of my head come to life. And as much as I enjoy doing all of that, writing is a different thing. With the time I spent with the UST Angelicum Tigercubs, I learned that being able to write as well as telling a story at the same time is a significant factor in being a good news writer.

My experiences in being a news writer has made me recognize the things that I am capable of doing and the things that that I should do more in order to become a better version of myself, both as a person and as a writer.
